Folks! Sorry I've let this blog get stale - thanks to Ashman for keeping some freshness in it recently and for sharing his quality pics. I took the ones below back in March - I feel like I should tell you that so you know why the surrounding foliage looks all dead and stuff. (It's much better looking now, just so you know.) As you may remember from this post, my mom has been looking into getting a rescued cat. Here's Molly, who ended up being the best fit. She's very playul and sweet, likes having her belly rubbed and will come out when her name is called. And what a cutie!

It's so easy for me to get attached to cats, cats I haven't even met! So even though I'm not sure if this cat will become my mom's new pet, I had to put up this picture that her foster owner sent. She's so pretty! Apparently she has a bit of an attitude, is not a lap cat, does not like other cats or small children. But sometimes you wonder if you put a cat in a different environment if they'd be happier, or if some of them just have as many personality issues as people! My mom lives alone and had to put her sick cat to sleep last winter, so this may or may not be a good thing for her. In a way, it might be a good match since my mom isn't home too much anyway, so kitty could have her independence. Aww, I'm trying not to get my hopes up though just in case. I'm glad there are so many nice people out there that rescue cats and find them good homes. If I had more room and if my cat would let me I'd probably be bringing lots of kitties home!

She was only a day or two old and being attacked by birds in a field when she was rescued by a friend. We don’t know what happened to the other two (they were all strays), but Gretel came home with us at about one week of age and she’s been happy as a clam ever since!

This is my cat Tagie. He is a BIG boy - 21 pounds of cat! He is a real love sponge when he wants to be and a real hisser the rest of the time. Here he is perched on top of Grandpa's recliner. He sometimes perches here even when Grandpa is occupying the recliner! He thinks it's his chair first and he just lets Grandpa borrow it once in awhile!

Roger - The Early Years

This is Roger at 5 months of age. We adopted him on April 4, 2004 and this picture was taken the following day at work (we took him to work for a week so he could learn that people were actually friendly). Roger and his brother became Humane Society residents after they were found abandoned. They were only there for a few days before we sprung Roger and then someone else bailed out his brother shortly thereafter - I know this because I checked to make sure that someone took the brother, otherwise I would have taken him myself and found him a good home. The reason we didn't take both in the first place is because they were unsocialized, and to keep them together would have meant that they had no incentive to become social with people or other dogs.

Roger was understandably terrified when he met us - he wanted nothing to do with people. When we got him home he ran into the bedroom, hid in a dark corner, and refused to come out. I felt terrible because he was so afraid of us, plus I was having trouble remembering his name - the people at the Humane Society named him Roger...it stuck because we liked it, but if I could have, I would have named him Carl.

Now, what's one of the first things one does when they bring home a puppy from the Humane Society? Correct! You give him a bath. New puppies always smell like pee... Anyway, since Roger was already scared out of his mind, I figured it was as good a time as any to give him a bath. Oddly enough, he liked it...he really liked it. We bonded over that bath and he decided that it was okay to like me. So instead of hiding in a dark corner, he was following me everywhere. J (my boyfriend) was jealous that the dog was warming up to me, but was still afraid of him. I told him that he should do something to bond with Roger - I even suggested giving him another bath since it worked for me. But J wanted to try something else...

I apologize for the poor quality of the photo...it's a picture of a picture. What you see here is a recently bathed puppy, wrapped in a towel, sitting next to J who is holding a box of cereal. As it turned out, Roger really liked Winnie the Pooh cereal and thus he and J bonded over it.

These days Roger continues to like taking baths, enjoys snacking on cereal, loves meeting new people and dogs - and he still follows us everywhere...

I've come across many great pet and animal pictures on blogs and websites, and thought it would be great to have a blog dedicated to just that. Plus, there are lots of you out there with many more pets and much better cameras than I have!
But don't feel obligated to be all cutesy-poo. Your quirky, crabby, or mischievious pets are welcome here also, and encouraged. Feel free to accompany your pictures with funny captions, true stories, a description of the pet, etc.
I'll be sending out invites to pet-loving bloggers I know (if they have their email address listed) but please send me an email if you'd like to share or would like me to post a picture or story for you!
